On the border between real and imaginary, with shades of surrealism and magical realism, war scenes alternate, dreams of a peaceful and serene world, of distant journeys, mythological references, analogies with other countries and peoples… At the center of the narrative is the man with his fragile identity, with the unhealed inner scars, with the sense of personal apocalypse.

My Rivers

‘My Rivers’ is an event in four cycles: The Loire, The Spree, The Drina and the Beyond the River. The book includes different poetic forms, from long narrative poems to free verse/flash fiction. The style is never overly strict in form, as Sehic always wants this work to be as clear and understandable as possible. It deals with themes of post-war reality and the culture of remembrance in a wider context, along with the tragedy of the Bosnian war seen through larger conflicts and the greater tragedies of the two world wars. The book seeks catharsis, to the extent to which it is possible in a post-conflict society like Bosnia, along with universal themes of intimacy, love, freedom.

Le Livre de l’Una est le récit d’un homme, ancien combattant dans l’armée de Bosnie-Herzégovine durant la guerre de 1992-1995, qui replonge à l’occasion d’une séance d’hypnose dans son histoire et tâche d’en recoller les morceaux éclatés. Dans sa transe, le narrateur se fait archiviste et chroniqueur du passé. Il y a le pays disparu, la guerre récente et ses horreurs, les tueries, les amis enterrés ; le présent et la vie de vétéran, traumatisé et déphasé au regard du monde et de ses contemporains ; hanté par un démon intérieur, un double maléfique.
